Value of a Moment Easel Card---Join the Fun of our Anything Goes Challenge at 613 Avenue Create!

It's pretty late this Sunday but wanted to post this Card for our Anything Goes Challenge with a Twist (Use Quotes from Dr. Seuss) at our neighborhood, 613 Avenue CreateI love the quote I used in this project which says, "Sometimes, you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory."   Thinking about what to highlight with this quote, it took me all the way to my relationship with my parents, particularly my mother.  Growing up, I really didn't understand the extent of her struggles raising us two kids with a husband that was almost never there.  I was made aware about the problems in our family at a very early age and I am grateful for that because she knew I was pretty smart to understand the situation.  But there were many times that I misjudged her and thought she was part of the reason why our family failed  and that she contributed largely in worsening the situation.  So, although we had wonderful moments together, our relationship was in chaos and dominated by many fights and arguments.  But then, we both came to know the Lord (Born Again, John 3:3) and surrendered our lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  Slowly but surely, God healed the wounds that we inflicted on each other and our relationship was so much better.  While gathering the broken pieces of our relationship,  we discovered that there would not be enough time to make new memories as her life was cut short by cancer.  After she was gone, I realized that all the bad memories were no longer in my head.  They've been replaced by respect, wonderful thoughts of our time together.  I remembered the many sacrifices she made for us. She turned down many invitations from her co-teachers who wanted her to go to the movies with them to have some fun.  That was because she wanted to go home and be with her kids.  And those days we had at the Mall's food court having dinner and how she was so concerned if I'd had enough to eat---offering me more from her plate.  I had an amazing Mom and it was so sad that I never had a chance to show her how much I appreciate her the way she should be honored.  So, if you have parents by your side right now, go and give them a call or better yet, give them a big hug!  They may not be perfect but they've tried their very best with what they got.  My Mom is dancing in the presence of the Lord for 12 years now and there's not a day I don't remember her.  She could have been 75 years old tomorrow, March 2nd...I love you, Mom!  Here's some verses I want to share with you today to give you hope and comfort in missing your loved ones:

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.  For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.  If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. (2 Corinthians 1:3-6)

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."  (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever."  (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17)

For this Card, I used an image from one of our sponsors, Sami Stamps called  "Sunshine Love."  I colored it with my ProMarker/Prismacolor markers.  The base is white CS, cut and scored to make a 5.5 inches square easel card.  I skip the DP's in this and instead, used three embossing folders from Cuttlebug, Recollection and Stampin' Up for some texture.  I inked around the image using Broken China Distress Ink.  The scalloped octagon was from Spellbinders, the flowers from Prima, the brads from Recollections and glittered with Stickles-Crystal.  For the solid CS, I used all my scraps.  Lastly, I stitched all over this project.

  3. Another beauty Jo Ann! Your execution of a design is always to the Nth degree... sharp, finished and detail oriented! Love the embossed panels & the matting you have done - and of course it would not be a "J. Atterbury" without the wonderful stitching you have done! a perfect sentiment choice for that image too.
